Dear All –
A few of you have pointed out that that the PEP Funds (according to the President’s budget) will be supported by the proposed “Successful, Safe, and Healthy Students” program as seen below:
Physical Education Program $79.0
“This program makes grants to local educational agencies and community-based organizations to pay for initiating, expanding, and improving physical education programs for students in kindergarten through 12th grade, activities that would continue to be supported under the proposed Successful, Safe, and Healthy Students program…”
To this I need to say —
“Unfortunately, this is bad news for PEP. PEP will no longer have a dedicated line item budget and will be “up for grabs” – competing with the other health programs. There is no mention of how these funds will be divided or determined. Most likely LARGELY determined by the health and wellness priorities of each state. And we all know where PE stands in that pecking order!”
